Do you have a webcam? Would you like people to
view it from your website, but are afraid that your ISP or hosting company
would shut you down because of the excessive bandwidth from the constant
uploading of the images? Worry no more! Why be uploading your webcam images
when nobody is looking at them? With SimpleServer, you can have
your webcam software only run, and upload your webcam images, when you
have a viewer at your website. SimpleServer will run your webcam
software only when your website viewers request it. It will run for the
duration that you set, then turn off, saving precious bandwidth. This
will give your website visitors a sense of power to be able to
start your webcam and "peek" in on you at any time.
If my home computer is on, you can see SimpleServer in action.
Turn on my webcam. Note: With SimpleServer, you can do a lot more than just run a webcam. It is designed to launch a program and then terminate that program after a user-defined number of minutes. For instance, you can run Wizmo, or start and stop telnet or your FTP or web server, do a virus scan, shutdown, or restart your home computer, or run batch or ".vbs" files, through the Internet or your LAN. It could play a wave file, alerting someone at home to take some action. If you have Win2k or WinXP, you could lock your computer remotely. SimpleServer is safe because it doesn't open up your whole computer to the Internet or your LAN, it only runs what you configured it to run. It sits quietly listening for the password you assigned it, and ignores all other LAN or WAN communication. Why not keep your home computer safer from hackers by running services, like FTP and telnet, on your command, and only for the few minutes you need them? Do you need FREE webcam software? I have two recommendations. You can decide which one is best for your needs. One of the simplest to use is booruWebCam found at: http://www.booru.net/. All it does is capture the webcam image and upload it to your website, where a web page can display it. Another is WebCam2000. WebCam2000 is open source and is freely distributable and modifiable by anyone. Click to view the copyright and license agreement. Unlike booruWebCam, it doesn't upload your captured image, but provides an image server on your computer that you can link to from your website, which is either locally or remotely hosted. WebCam2000 or booruWebCam can be used with SimpleServer. WebCam2000 homepage. Requires Windows (95?), 98 or above. |

Do you have a dynamic IP address? Are you thinking of running a web server, or any other server for that matter, at home and don't know how your visitors are going to find you with your IP address constantly changing? Scheduled HTTP GET can be used in conjunction with a web page that grabs or displays your IP address. It can be used with a web page that automatically redirects your visitors to your home web server. Example web pages are provided for your use. Or, you can set the URL to your web page that has a counter to fake traffic to your site. For example, run 10 instances of this program set to access your site every minute. This will produce 600 hits per hour, 24 hours a day. Or, if hosting company doesn't give you access to cron, you could set up a PHP page or perl script that does what you want, and have Scheduled HTTP GET call that page or script just like cron would. Or, it can also be used to keep your internet connection alive by accessing a web page every few minutes. View the actual help file for details. Requires Windows 98 or above. |

There is a program named "Wizmo", found at: http://grc.com/wizmo/wizmo.htm. Wizmo is a kind of "Windows gizmo" and is written by Steve Gibson of "ShieldsUP!" fame. It provides handy one-click Windows commands like turning the monitor off (the program itself is worth getting just for this feature), starting the default screensaver and a highly configurable screensaver of its own called "Graviton". Graviton is highly configurable, but only from a command line. I was so impressed by the visual effects of Wizmo's Graviton, that I wrote an easy to use interface to manipulate the Graviton controls. Hence the birth of "Gravitonomy", which in the tradition of Wizmo, is short for "Graviton autonomy". The purpose of Gravitonomy is not to be universal interface for Wizmo, it does have four user-programmable Wizmo command buttons, but to easily tweak Graviton controls, which is hard to do on a command line. Graviton displays a "universe" of particles on the screen and animates them according to the attributes you set. Click on the thumbnail to view the controls. By tweaking these attributes, stunning patterns can be produced. I was going to include screenshots, but without the movement of the particles, it didn't do justice to what it actually looked like. Even if you don't download Gravitonomy, get Wizmo, but if you want to play with the Graviton feature, get Gravitonomy too. New to version 2, Gravitonomy can now save its settings directly as shortcuts or batch files! This provides a quick and easy way to create your favorite Wizmo commands. Note: Go to the
Gravitonomy page for Wizmo tips and fixes.

What it will do: What it won't do: Instructions: Examples: Note: This was written for people who wish Wizmo
graviton ran as a real screensaver. Until this ability is incorporated
into Wizmo, this is the next best thing. Apart from running Wizmo, this
program has limited uses. Few programs that aren't meant to be screensavers,
function well as screensavers. Go to the Gravitonomy
page for other Wizmo tips and fixes. |
| Run In Tray | Version 1.3.1 |

Do you have a program that you would like to have running for extended periods of time, but don't want it to take up task bar space, and that program doesn't have a "minimize to the tray" feature? Run In Tray will solve that problem for you. Run In Tray will work with most Windows and DOS based programs. For example, Outlook Express might be a program you would like to have minimized to the system tray. Or maybe a DOS based web server. This is how it works... There is an option to "Autorun minimized" to the system tray. Set this if you want to automatically launch the other program and minimize it to the system tray when Run In Tray runs. This is especially useful if launched from the startup folder. To run multiple instances of this program, make a copy of RunInTray.exe and name the copy something like "RunInTray2.exe" or "RunInTray3.exe", etc. Requires Windows 98 or above. |

When run, Monoff4.exe puts your monitor in a low power or power off mode, saving electricity. This can be used instead of Wizmo's "monoff" feature. Some people have had problems with Wizmo interfering with background processes that start up while Wizmo is running, and problems when multiple instances of Wizmo run at the same time. See my Wizmo FAQ page for more on this. Monoff 4 can't produce these potential problems. The Microsoft VC++ 7project source code is provided for those who are interested. To all users who have a version prior to 1.5, please download this version. WinXP SP2 breaks earlier versions of Monoff 4. Thanks go out to Paul Jackson for pointing this out. Download old version 1.5 executable and source. Note: To run Monoff 4 as a screensaver, just
rename Monoff4.exe to Monoff4.scr. |

| Quick SM | Version 1.0 Beta J |
A form processing PHP script maker.
|
| Version 1.0 Beta J | ||
|
Would you like to have forms on your website,
but are not sure how make them submit? Are you having trouble configuring
formmail perl scripts for your forms? Then Quick SM is written
just for you! Quick SM creates a PHP script, or web page, that
will send you an email containing the submitted data of your form. Or,
instead of emailing you the data, it can append it to a text file in various
formats for importing into spreadsheets or databases, and then email you
a notification that the form was submitted. Basically all you have to
do is to upload your form to your website, then point your browser to
the Quick SM web page. It will read your form from your website,
and allow you to set a few options like where to email the data, the required
fields, etc. It then will create a custom formatted, fully commented
and editable PHP page for you to download. Just upload this page to
your website, in the same directory as your form. Then change your form's
"action" to the name of the newly created PHP page. Re-upload
your form. That's it. It's about point and click as you can get.
There is a test form provided for you to practice with the program and
get familiar with the various options, just click the "Insert
test/practice form" link, then press the "Read Form"
button. |
